ABOUT OUR KANTHA

Full of rich history and tradition, our kantha throws are made from recycled vintage sari lengths, softened by wear and washing. Traditional kantha is an example of flat, unwadded quilting, created from layers of cotton, held together with a 'kantha' running stitch, in a coloured thread matching or contrasting to the background fabric. Today kantha making has been embraced by many communities, aimed at preserving traditional embroidery skills and their creation generates much needed income for the artisans involved. These heirloom-worthy throws are regarded with great pride, as a symbol of Indian and Bangladeshi culture.

We have had many happy, memorable visits to the rural villages of West Bengal, South of Kolkata, to meet with our suppliers who create our kantha throws. These charming throws are a perfectly imperfect finishing touch of cosy warmth and colour for your home.
